Uplifting Cameroonian rural maize farmers
through better business foundations
and market access!

The Problem

Over 1 million rural maize farmers in Cameroon lose about 40% of their harvest each year due to poor storage.  In addition, the urgent need for money forces them to sell their maize early to predatory middlemen at very low prices. These result in over a $104 million annual loss in income.

Why We Exist

CornHouse exists to transform how smallholder farmers capture value from their harvest. Rather than addressing storage, finance, or market access in isolation, we integrate all three into a single system that helps farmers protect their maize, access financing, and sell at the right time. By turning stored grain into a productive asset, CornHouse enables farmers to move from survival to stability.

Vision

A thriving and resilient agricultural ecosystem where smallholder farmers prosper.

Mision

To uplift Cameroonian rural maize farmers through better business foundations and market access.

What We Do

Comprehensive support for farmers through every step of their journey.

PICS Bag Distribution

Maize Warehousing

Farmers bring harvests to our secure warehouse for aggregation and storage.

Loan Access

Using warehouse receipts as collateral for micro-loans via our MFI partners.

Fair Market Sales

Aggregated maize is solid to high-value markets, maximizing farmer profits.

Capacity Building

Training in sustainable farming, financial literacy, and business skills.

Farmer Support

Providing ongoing guidance and resources to ensure farmer success.

Our Model: How It Works

With PICS bags, farmers can safely store large volumes of maize, reducing post-harvest losses and improving food security. Farmers then bring sale-intended maize to our warehouse. Once received, we issue warehouse receipts that reflect the quantity and estimated value.

These receipts are used as collateral for micro-loans from our partner, NgoCCUL, giving farmers financial flexibility during waiting periods. Later, CornHouse sells the aggregated maize in fair, high-value markets. After repaying loans and deducting minimal sales costs, the remaining revenue is returned to the farmers, who ultimately earn more and build trust in the system.

Our Impact

Turning maize storage into financial security, one farmer at a time.
